01/20/2005 Update
Mengyu Tang (No photo available) is only 27 years old and serving a six-year sentence in prison in China for starting an unregistered Sunday school. Like Li Ying of China, Pastor Nguyen Quang of Vietnam, and Parvez Masih of Pakistan, Tang’s bold spirit is reflected in the words of Peter and John when they said, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). But you can do something to help Tang! You can send her a letter of encouragement.
On June 17, 2004, when Sister Jiang Zongxiu went to the market in Guizhou Province, China, she thought it would be just another day. Along with her mother-in-law, Jiang went through the marketplace, handing out Christian literature and telling people about Jesus. Their actions were soon noticed, and they were arrested. Even when the police took the two women into custody, Jiang did not become discouraged: Arrest and suffering are a regular part of the Christian walk in China. Little did the 34-year-old wife and mother know that the next day she would enter eternity, beaten to death while in the custody of Chinese police.
The Voice of the Martyrs has received Jiang’s shocking story, along with documentation from Chinese newspapers and our sources inside China. These can be seen on The Voice of the Martyrs’ Web site, www.persecution.com/sisterjiang.
Jiang is with Jesus, but Mengyu Tang is serving her sentence and receives only an occasional letter. We want to flood that prison with letters from around the world not only to encourage Tang, but also to honor the memory of Sister Jiang Zongxiu. When Tang begins to receive letters, officials will be put on notice that the world is watching. This information was obtained from China Aid Association, a vital partner with VOM (www.chinaaid.org).

The reward for your endeavor will be what is said by many prisoners "while doing time for God, we praise Him that we are not forgotten." Even in the most horrific conditions and suffering there can be dignity.
This is what you will give to a fellow believer in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 13:3, Matthew 25:34-40, Matthew 5:10, 1 Peter 3: 13-17, 1 Peter 4: 12-14
